What is Workmen’s Compensation?
It is a policy that compensates against occupational injuries and diseases sustained or contracted by employees during their employment or death
resulting from such injuries or diseases. This policy further covers disability and medical expenses following an injury of the employee in the line of duty.
This policy runs from the beginning of April each year and expires at the end of March the following year.
What is the scope of cover?
- The nature of the employer’s business.
- The number of employees covered.
- Employee’s occupation within the business.
- The employee’s monthly salary/ wages (not less than the minimum wage)
What does the policy cover?
- Death
- Temporary and Permanent Disability
- Medical expenses

Increased Medical expenses of up to E200 000 per employee per
accident – ESRIC refunds medical expenses spent by the
employer on the injured employee. The increase ensures injured
employees get quality medical attention to aid their recovery.

Up to E1 000 000 Employer Liability Cover – This will provide
cover for the employer against legal liabilities emanating from
injuries or death of an employee through negligence of the
employer. The employee may seek additional recourse about
the amount payable on the Workmen’s Compensation policy.

Funeral cover of E20 000 per employee – In the event the
employee dies from occupational injuries, the Workmen’s
Compensation Policy will pay a sum of E20 000 towards funeral
expenses.
