ESWATINI Royal Insurance Corporation (ESRIC) has once again extended a helping hand to Maloma High School, donating a semi-industrial printer and Typek valued at E70 000 to ease the school's challenge of preparing examination materials. During the handover ESRIC Assistant General Manager of Corporate Services Musa Simelane, explained that the company had identified the challenges faced by the school and felt compelled to assist.
"This is not our first time here. We previously supported Maloma High with computers and security enhancements. Today, we are proud to hand over this semi-industrial printer which will allow the school to print exam papers on time for the upcoming examination season," Simelane said. He emphasized that ESRIC's aim was to contribute towards building the future of the pupils and giving them a fair chance to compete with pupils from other schools who already had access to such resources. "We believe that education is the key to opportunity and we are committed to supporting schools like Maloma so that their pupils can thrive," he added.
Headteacher Sabelo Mamba expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that the donation would reduce the burden teachers faced when preparing tests and exams. "Previously, we used to write exam questions on the chalkboard and pupils would copy them onto paper before answering. It was a very time-consuming process," Mamba explained. He stated that now they would be able to print both questions papers and answer sheets, which would not only save time, but improve the quality of learning for their pupils.
Mamba further recalled that ESRIC's support to the school was not new. Last year, the company donated five desktop computers, Typek paper and also assisted with the installation of burglar gates and windows in the staffroom, which also serves as a food storeroom. He said this ensured that both school equipment and food supplies were secured. The headteacher also revealed that in the past, the school had to travel to Nhlangano, the nearest town to print examination and art materials which raised costs significantly. At times, they relied on Mphalambanla High School for printing, a solution that was not always convenient. Speaking on behalf of the pupils, Sibonelo Msefwa added their excitement, saying the donation meant they could now act for proper exams. "We are very grateful for what ESRIC has done for us over the years."
"As pupils we promise to work hard and make sure that their efforts and generosity do not go to waste," she said. The school's Chairperson, Themba Masuku echoed the same sentiments, stating that the donation would make learning easier for the pupils and give them hope for better academic outcomes.
