Before taking to the battlefield to compete for points and pride on Wednesday 21 March 2018, about 90 golfers congregated at Royal Swazi Spa for the launch of the 2018 edition of the SRIC Business League.
In actual fact, this was more than just a launch. It was an occasion for strengthening the ties between SRIC and the Golf fraternity.
The General Manager (GM), Mr Zama Ngcobo, first announced that SRIC will be renewing the Business League sponsorship for a further 3 years, much to the applause of the house. Still on the same sponsorship, the GM further announced that for the year 2018, the amount sponsored will be increased from E130, 000 to E150, 000. This was good and welcome news to the golfers.
There were other pronouncements that would have had the golfers smiling from ear to ear: For the duration of the current year, all golfers belonging to teams registered under the Business League will receive free Funeral Cover to the tune of E10, 000. The cover extends to the golfer’s spouse and 6 children who are below the age of 21 years or minors to whom the golfer is a guardian.
SRIC also officially unveiled a website dedicated solely to the Business League. The website’s aim is to provide news and updates pertaining to the league, team log standings and pictures of the golfers in action during official league games. The website is linked to the SRIC website – www.sric.sz.
Before concluding his address, the GM remarked that there is a need for the Golf sporting fraternity to be inclusive; it has to accommodate such demographics as women, junior golfers and the very same caddies that the golfers oft rely on for a whole lot of things. To this, the GM announced that SRIC will be sponsoring a Caddies tournament to be played at the Mbabane Golf Course. The amount of this sponsorship is E10, 000.
Wednesday 21st May was a good day for Golf in Swaziland. The sport may just be a game, played over 18 holes, in good spirit but it is also a platform for taking insurance to the people; an opportunity for organizations like SRIC to play their part in developing the economy and improving the standard of living in Swaziland. To SRIC, golf has become more than just a gentleman’s game, it is a way of life!
